Delightful Dénia. A History, 2020
Dear Readers,
For English speakers interested in Dénia, a history of the town has long been needed. It so It so happened that three of us fell in love with this wonderful town long-long ago. We live in Dénia. We work here, eat here, take our children to schools and colleges, walk and jog around the town, go up the Montgó town and dive in the calas of Las Rotas.
We also show Dénia’s beauties to numerous visitors, our friends and relatives. Having done this for more than 15 years, we have decided to write a book. This short edition took us some 5 years to formulate.
Primarily, the book is about the history of Dénia, put into the wider context of the history of Spain as a whole. But there are also sections related to the present day Dénia, including hints on what to do, where to eat and drink, and when to come. So, not only a fascinating history book, but also a source of information to be continually referred to, by those of you lucky enough to visit, or to live in the town.
Welcome to the ancient, young, beautiful, delightful Dénia. To the town with more than a 2,500 years-long history. To the town, whose red-and-white houses are scattered across the green hills and the sands, between the sea and the mountains.
Saints and sinners, ancient Greeks and Romans, Moros and Christians, kings, dukes and famous authors, rebels and royalists, tourists and cooks, present-day citizens of 90 nationalities, have lived, visited and enjoyed our town.
